Cryotherapy is a stay in a special chamber, in which you will be briefly exposed to extremely low temperatures of up to -120 °C. The dry cold in the cryochamber causes blood vessels to contract, and after subsequent warming up with movement, they will expand again.
Did you know that even extreme cold has beneficial effects on your body? Visit the unique cryochamber at Kryo Centrum Liptov and experience the healing power of this procedure on your own skin!
This therapy brings long-term beneficial effects for the body, the entire procedure lasts a maximum of 3 minutes, which, according to doctors, is enough time for active blood circulation to occur, which significantly improves metabolism and accelerates the detoxification process. It also helps reduce the activity of inflammatory processes, reduce joint swelling and shortens the healing time of musculoskeletal injuries. After undergoing cosmetic or plastic surgery, it relieves pain and accelerates the skin healing process.
How does cryotherapy work?
Before your first entry, trained staff will explain all the important information about the procedure to you, and you will undergo a short basic entrance examination, which consists of measuring your blood pressure and body temperature. Then you will change into prescribed clothing (ear headband, mask, cotton T-shirt and shorts, socks and clogs), which will protect you from frostbite during your stay in extremely low temperatures. Dressed in this way, you will first enter a cryochamber with a temperature of -60 °C for 1 minute, where your body adapts to the cold to prevent shock. Then you will go to a cryochamber with a temperature of -120 °C, where you will spend a maximum of 3 minutes. After the procedure, you will do a 5-10 minute cardio exercise to reheat the body.
Local cryotherapy
The principle of local cryotherapy is to reduce the temperature of the affected tissues of the joints, muscles, and tendons in the shortest possible time. The duration of such a procedure is approximately 3 minutes for small treated areas, up to 8 minutes for large areas and joints. The effect of extremely low temperatures (less than -160°C) causes significant blood circulation in the affected area, starts healing processes, and acts against pain, swelling and inflammation. Local cryotherapy can be applied up to 3 times a day with breaks of 3-4 hours.
Where is cryotherapy used?
Rehabilitation
Accelerates rehabilitation after surgical procedures (Achilles tendon, knee, hip, shoulder, spine surgeries) and increases its effectiveness Reduces muscle tension and improves range of motion in stiff joints Relieves pain, back pain, joint pain and swelling, stiff neck and cervical spine problems, degenerative changes in joints and tendons (arthrosis, osteoarthritis) Rheumatology
Reduces the activity of inflammatory processes
Relieves joint pain
Reduces joint swelling
Orthopedics
Accelerates healing after surgeries
Prevents inflammation Increases range of motion
Reduces muscle tension
Relieves pain
Dermatology
Positively affects the course of diseases such as psoriasis and atopic eczema
Accelerates skin healing and relieves pain after cosmetic and plastic surgeries
Sports medicine
It shortens the healing time for musculoskeletal injuries: ankle sprain, Achilles tendon rupture, knee ligament and meniscus damage, shoulder joint damage, microtrauma of muscle fibers, bruises, old joint and soft tissue injuries… It relieves pain in the joint, ligament and muscle system caused by intensive training and chronic overload. A great benefit, not only for athletes, is that healing occurs “ad integrum”. This means that the healing of damaged tissue occurs through the minimal formation of an inelastic scar. A scar on the tissue reduces its functionality and elasticity. It is a place where repeated damage to permanent injuries occurs during overload. When applying local cryotherapy, this scar is formed to a minimal extent and the damaged tissue is replaced by a fully functional and resistant tissue.
