Liptov Village Museum
In connection with the construction of the Liptovská Mara water dam, the Museum of the Liptov Village in Pribylina was established to preserve important immovable monuments from the flooded area. The foundation stone of the museum was laid in 1972, and the open-air museum was opened to the public in 1991.
Currently, the open-air museum complex features buildings from various parts of Liptov. The composition of the buildings resembles a historical small town, common in several privileged Liptov villages. It includes dwellings of all layers of the village population – from the poorest landless peasant (želiar), through farmers, craftsmen, up to mayors (richtári), squires, and nobility.
The museum offers various educational programs for pupils and students throughout the year. During the summer season, visitors can enjoy thematic days with a rich program.
The museum complex also includes the Exposition of the Považie Forest Railway. It presents historical rail vehicles and a section of the original track. In the past, this railway connected Liptovský Hrádok with the valleys of the Čierny Váh river. Currently, the track connects the railway depot with the village, and visitors can take a ride on a historical train between these stations.
A new relaxation zone, connected with an educational trail, is located between the village and the railway depot. This barrier-free relaxation zone presents the beauty of Liptov's natural heritage and is also designed for people with special needs. The educational trail offers several educational and physical activities tailored to visitors with various needs.
Opening hours:
8:00 - 15:30 (last entry 14:30)
